Gout Foods-Discover What Foods Should Be Included In Your Gout Diet

arthritis-diet: Gout Diet There are foods that are notorious among gout triggers. Caution should be taken when including them in your diet. It would probably be better to rather eliminate them from your diet, especially if you are battling with acute attacks or have already developed chronic gout.

Being on a Gout Diet helps to control the production and excretion of uric acid, which in turn will help prevent gout attacks or at least reduce their severity. A Gout Diet is not a cure for gout but may help manage attacks. Being overweight also increases your risk for developing gout. Keeping your weight at a realistic level will also help reduce the risk of further attacks.

According to the Mayo Clinic Diet, here is a basic list of food groups that should be included in a Gout Diet:

Complex carbohydrates (cereal, rice, pasta, vegetables, fruits but exclude white-flour products)

Low-fat dairy products (low-fat cheese, milk, yoghurt but exclude Soya)

Foods high in vitamin C (fruit, potatoes, red bell peppers, red cabbage)

Essential fatty acids (nuts, seeds, flax-seeds, tuna)

Vegetables (celery, cabbage, parsley, green-leaf veggies, but exclude cauliflower, asparagus, mushrooms)

Fruit (especially cherries, strawberries, blueberries, grapes and other blue/red berries)

Drink plenty of water. Water assists the body in the removal of uric acid.

Try to add low-fat dairy products to your diet. Including them in your diet is associated with a lowered risk of developing gout.

Get regular exercise and maintain a healthy weight. You will have more energy and be overall healthier.

Remember that the foods you eat are not the cause of your gout. To best manage gout, you need a proper treatment plan that includes healthy lifestyle changes that include diet and exercise, long-term treatment of high uric acid levels that cause gout and pain management for gout attacks.

Have a discussion with your physician and be honest about what you are doing. This is the best way to decide on a comprehensive treatment plan to help get your gout under control and to manage and maintain it in the future.

If you are experiencing pain, your body is trying to tell you something. Do not ignore the symptoms and put your health at risk. Prevention is better than cure. Find out what is wrong. Painkillers will only treat the symptoms and not the cause. Therefore, it is not a long-term solution.

Take responsibility and listen to your body. Be kind to your body and it will be kind to you.
