Arthritis Foundation: Jingle Bell Run and Walk 2010
The Arthritis Foundation's festive holiday Jingle Bell Run and Walk 2010 aims to motivate arthritis sufferers to keep moving and celebrating life, but that's not all. This event is a fun opportunity for nationwide communities to raise awareness and funds for arthritis treatment while raising fun with friends. Two-footed and four-footed friends are welcome. I mean dogs, not cats or reindeer.
Although the Arthritis Foundation holds events throughout the year including the Bone Bash, Joints in Motion, Arthritis Walk. The Jingle Bell Run and Walk provides a magical holiday walking experience. It launches at the North Pole on July 10th. After giving Santa a head start, the rest of events occur during the months of November and December.
For more information and to register for your local event, visit Arthritis.org. Click on the "Events & Programs" link and select "Jingle Bell Run and Walk" from the drop down menu.
Registering for the event is quick, easy and takes just a few minutes.
Once registered, you can join or form a team of friends, family, neighbors and co-workers. The Arthritis Foundation website makes it easy to take walking fundraising events to the next level. Set a fundraising goal and promote your personal Arthritis Foundation website to your team via Facebook, MySpace, Linked In and Twitter. What else do you need to know?
You do not need to be personally affected by arthritis to participate. Just bring some holiday spirit, comfortable shoes, the ability to hoof it for five kilometers, plus a desire to have fun while supporting a worthy cause.
Do you have a pup you'd like to include? Go for it. Your personal trainer, be it your own dog or a foster dog from your local shelter, is an excellent addition. If your canine pal is available for adoption be sure to take advantage of this opportunity to promote him or her, appropriately.
Eye catching apparel options include "Adopt Me" leads, collars and doggie T-shirts which are available from many pet suppliers including PetEdge.com. Another crafty option, customized bright orange safety vests, requires a little bit of hands-on detailing. Simply purchase the vest from Pet Edge and some peel off letter stickers from a craft store to boldly spell "ADOPT ME" across their chest and back.
Another promotional idea is to make customized business cards to pass along to interested walking participants. Pet adoption cards should include a photo of the dog, along with vital information such as breed, age and special needs. Also highlight pluses like obedience trained, house-trained, and loves to play with kids, cats and dogs. Be clear about any restrictions including special medical needs or issues with gender (male/female), young children or other animals.
Let's see making friends, raising funds for arthritis awareness and research, AND helping our best friends find forever homes during the holidays. Not to mention the health benefits obtained through walking. What could be better than that?
