Knee Arthritis Bothers many Senior Citizens

Arthritis In The Knee News:

Sorry, but we have no information on this topic for the moment.

Many older people suffer from knee arthritis which can cause extreme pain and keep these people from getting around. Sometimes they're in constant pain which can also cause depression.

There are three types of arthritis that affect the elderly. The first type is known as osteoarthritis, and this is the most common type of knee arthritis. This is a disease that continually gets worse as it affects the cartilage around the knee joint. This disease can start in middle age and gradually gets worse with the accompanying pain.

Rheumatoid arthritis is also a type of knee arthritis which can start at a very young age although it is most common in older people.

Post-traumatic arthritis often happens because of some type of injury. An injury to the knee such as a fracture or torm ligament can trigger this type of knee arthritis.

Knee arthritis starts with a gradual swelling of the knee joint accompanied with mild pain. The arthritis causes the joint to become stiff and painful. This condition is exacerbated by lack of exercise. A doctor will be able to examine the knee to find out if there is evidence of knee arthritis.

Pain from Knee Arthritis Can Be Alleviated

Knee arthritis can be cured in different ways although some people do not find relief from this condition. There are painkillers that can alleviate the awful effects of this condition which can be purchased at the local pharmacy, but as the pain increases the patient may have to get stronger prescription drugs to help with the pain.

Sometimes the pain becomes so severe that narcotic drugs must be prescribed. There are times when arthritis must be fixed with surgery and knee replacement may become necessary to alleviate the chronic pain of knee arthritis.

There exist some natural substances that supposedly help with knee arthritis and arthritis sufferers should investigate some of the natural remedies available.

There is some evidence that a proper diet could help relieve the pain. Fish that contains Omega-3 fatty acids can help in this regard. Ginger put into food might also help alleviate the effects of arthritis.

And some level of exercise is also beneficial. However, this might be difficult where some people are concerned as their arthritis may make movement very painful.

Each patient should consult with their physician and read the available material to find the perfect course of treatment for themselves.
