What Is Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD)?Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD) is part of the natural process of growing older. I have been in chronic pain for over 13 year from a high impact car accident?
I have had almost every test in the book. MRI's show bulging disc's, narrowing of the spine and degenerative disc disease. I have symptoms of a knife in the back of my right leg down into my foot. My right foot also goes numb. I have fallen when I get out of bed many times and my leg will go out from under me at times. I have a wonderful doctor who doesn't just write a script and send me on my way. (I've been there and done that)
I have started the process of getting Steroid Injections. I had my first one December 28, 2011, L-5/S-1. The knife in the back of my leg feeling was reduced to the feeling of a butter knife and the numbness went away. It was very awesome and emotional for me to experience a bit of relieve with the pain in my leg (I did have a Static Migraine for 22 days after the injection...not fun)
I also have other pain and anxiety due to the accident, I was active and outgoing before accident. I just try and do the best I can. It's exhausting to be in pain. I am 35,married, one child
Yesterday however (2/2/12) , I awoke with the knife back in my leg feeling again and had a numb foot. Today the knife feeling is still there. I was told that the injection might work, might not, could work for a month or a year. The injection is different for everyone.
Next week I have another Steroid Injection scheduled for my neck and then after that my Facet joint. These injections are not cheap and are quite invasive in my opinion. L-5/S-1 was $4,500.00 I have insurance ,but, it's still expensive. I have spent over $100k trying to find relieve.
I am hoping that if you have had this done you could give me your opinion on this procedure. Did they give you relieve? For how long? Do you recommend them? Would you do it again?
I have tried Physical Therapy, Water Therapy, Acupuncture, Rolphing, Massage Therapy, Chiropractic Adjustments, Medications, T.E.N.S. Unit, Bio-Feed Back, Talk Therapy, Aroma Therapy
I have not had surgery. Why you ask? I have been told that these bulging disc's are "not bad enough to cause the symptoms you're having" It's a bit frustrating. Any suggestions? Like most people I don't have a giant check book. I've been dealing with this for 13 years. I've only been seen in Alaska not at Mayo or Virgina Mason.
